Charlottetown to Host Two Canadian Soccer Championships

Charlottetown, PEI, March 26, 2015 – The City of Charlottetown, SCORE!, the Canadian Soccer Association and the PEI Soccer Association are pleased to announce two Canadian soccer championships will be hosted in Charlottetown over the next two years.

The 2015 Canada Soccer Sport Chek National Club Championships – U18 Cup will be held at the UPEI Complex, Terry Fox Sports Complex and other supporting facilities from October 7-12, 2015. The city will also host the 2016 Canada Soccer Sport Chek National Club Championships – U16 Cup from October 5-10, 2016.

“We’re extremely excited that Charlottetown will be the host city for a division of the Canada Soccer Sport Chek National Club Championships for two successive years,” said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. “The PEI Soccer Association is to be commended for its role in bringing these events to the Island. We expect more than 3,000 people to attend as either participants or spectators and that will have a positive economic impact on our community in the Fall season.”

“These Championships bring together some of the best up and coming players in this country – many of whom have been identified as potential players to form the next group of Youth National Team players,” said John Diamond, President of the PEI Soccer Association. “Hosting a National Championship has become second nature for the Island, City of Charlottetown and the PEI Soccer Association, and the competition always provides many exciting games and memories. The exposure received by our players, as well as our local game officials, is enormous.”

The National Championships are Canada’s premier amateur competitions, from the senior level Challenge Trophy and Jubilee Trophy competitions down to the U-14 youth levels.
