Hockey Canada 2013 AGM Coming to City in May

Charlottetown, PEI, February 6, 2013 – Hockey PEI is pleased to host Hockey Canada’s 94th Annual General Meeting from May 23-26, 2013.  The conference will be held at the Delta Prince Edward that sits along the historic Charlottetown waterfront.

Hockey Canada’s 2013 AGM will bring together over 250 delegates that constitute the governing body’s Board of Directors, Officers, Life Members, Partner Organizations and representation from all thirteen branches, as well as from Councils that oversee female hockey, junior hockey, minor hockey, senior hockey and hockey development.

“The annual general meeting is one of the most important events on the Hockey Canada calendar, and we’re thrilled that Charlottetown will welcome delegates from across the country,” said Bob Nicholson, president and CEO of Hockey Canada. “Whenever we have hosted an event on Prince Edward Island we have seen nothing but first-class hospitality, and we’re expecting nothing less this spring.”

Delegates will focus on many areas of the game including development, governance and organizational priorities to name a few.  In addition, on Friday May 25th, the annual Hockey Canada’s awards banquet will honor ten deserving recipients in different categories for their contributions and commitment to hockey in Canada.

Hockey PEI lasted hosted the Annual Meeting in 1999.  Hosting such a large conference will certainly derive some positive benefits to the City of Charlottetown and the region.

“The City of Charlottetown is pleased to be hosting the Hockey Canada Annual General Meeting,” said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. “We value the strong relationship we have with Hockey Canada. Over the years, we have hosted a number of its premier events. We’re looking forward to hosting this important meeting as it gives us another opportunity to further build on that relationship and provides us with another opportunity to showcase Charlottetown’s facilities and hospitality and what our great City has to offer. I also want to applaud the efforts of Hockey PEI for its involvement in attracting and hosting this great event in the Capital City. ”

The 2013 Hockey Canada Annual General Meeting is proudly supported by the Charlottetown Tourism Accommodation Levy.
