National Championship Awarded to Charlottetown-Stratford

Charlottetown Minor Baseball President, David LeClair; Charlottetown Mayor, Clifford Lee; Stratford Mayor, Kevin Jenkins; and Tourism Charlottetown President, Kevin Murphy announced today that the 2008 Baseball Canada Junior Championship will be hosted in Charlottetown-Stratford from August 14th-17th.

The Baseball Canada Junior Championship will feature 10 to 11 teams, with 250 participants taking to Memorial and MacNeill Fields.  The Championship is the stage for junior baseball in Canada, featuring some of the top players in the country.

“Charlottetown Minor Baseball is excited about partnering with our friends across the river in Stratford, to host the 2008 Baseball Canada Junior Championship,” said President, David LeClair.  “We look forward to working together, as we have so many times in the past for the betterment of baseball, to showcase our newly renovated ball fields in Charlottetown and Stratford as we prepare for the 2009 Canada Summer Games.”

“We are delighted to partner with the Town of Stratford to host the 2008 Baseball Canada Junior Championship.  The successful awarding of major sporting events, such as the ‘08 Championship, is a result of these strong efforts of partnerships between organizations like the Charlottetown and Stratford Minor Baseball Associations, with the support of the SCORE! initiative,” said Charlottetown Mayor Lee.  “Our community, its people, their inspiration and spirit will ensure the success of this event, while leaving a lasting legacy for baseball.”

“The Town of Stratford is extremely pleased to partner with the City of Charlottetown to host the 2008 Baseball Canada Junior Championship. We are looking forward to displaying our rich tradition of hospitality and community spirit, making it a great place to play and watch baseball in 2008,” said Mayor, Kevin Jenkins.  “Through the support of our community volunteers, minor baseball associations and fans, I know that this event will be a great success,” added Jenkins.
