2014 NBL Canada All-Star Weekend Set for Charlottetown

Toronto, Ontario, March 28, 2014 – The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that the 2014 NBL Canada All Star Weekend will be held in Charlottetown, PEI on April 19-20 in partnership with the Island STORM, the City of Charlottetown and Special Events Reserve Fund (SERF), the Confederation Bridge, the Province of PEI, and PEI 2014 Inc.

“We’re excited to be bringing the league’s showcase event to the great City of Charlottetown and Prince Edward Island,” said NBL Canada Commissioner Paul Riley.

Festivities on Saturday at the arena will include a minor basketball clinic with the all stars, a university invitational all-star game, the NBL 3-Point Shootout, and the highlight event of the day: the NBL Canada Slam Dunk Contest.  Following the events at the arena, there will be an awards banquet in the adjacent Red Shores Casino Top of the Park where the league’s season and playoff awards are announced and presented, which will be followed by All-Star Party in the Trade Centre next door.

On Sunday, the signature event of the weekend, the All Star Game, where the league’s best of the best showcase their talents will take place beginning at 2:00 PM at the Eastlink Arena.

Canadian musician Karl Wolf (3-time Juno award nominee & 3-time Socan Anglophone Song of the Year performer), and Juno award winning Canadian rapper Choclair, will perform over the All Star Weekend.

This is the first year the All-Star festivities will be held in Charlottetown, as Halifax and Saint John hosted the event in the first two seasons.

“The Island STORM are consistently one of the best teams in our league, with some of the most passionate fans, and a first-class ownership and management group,” added Commissioner Riley. “We wanted to reward them by having this exciting event right here in Charlottetown over Easter Weekend, its a great time for families to do things together.”

The 2013 NBLC All-Star Game was held at Harbour Station in Saint John, N.B. and drew a crowd of over 4,000 fans to the two-day event. The All Star rosters will be announced by the League on Friday April 4th.

Tickets will be available through the Eastlink Centre website and will go on sale on Tuesday, April 1st. Island Storm season tickets holders have until Thursday, April 3rd at noon to retain their current seats. To contact the box office or order tickets over the phone, call 902.629.6625.
