Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, June 5, 2015 – The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Gilles Courteau, announced today that the Annual Session and Entry Draft will be held in Charlottetown in 2016.
“I want to thank the Charlottetown Islanders organization, its group of owners and the City of Charlottetown for their bid to host our annual event,” said the Commissioner. “This demonstrates the seriousness of the team’s new administration in our league and is a reflection of the importance of municipal partnerships with our teams. I look forward to returning to Charlottetown for what will be a successful QMJHL Annual Session.”
The QMJHL Annual Session will be held June 1 – 4, 2016. The Entry Draft itself will take place at the EastLink Centre on Saturday, June 4. League administration and teams will be arriving in Charlottetown days in advance of the event.
“The City of Charlottetown and its sport tourism brand, SCORE, is happy to have worked with the Charlottetown Islanders to attract this event,” said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. “The Charlottetown Islanders are a valued part of our sport community and this is another way for us to show our support for their presence in our city. The QMJHL Annual Session and Entry Draft will have substantial economical and tourism impacts and offer significant national media coverage. We’re proud to be the host city and we look forward to the event.”
The QMJHL Annual Session and Entry Draft will bring together League administration, teams, sponsors, media, scouts, prospects and their families, accounting for upwards of 1,200 people over the course of the event.
“The Charlottetown Islanders are excited to partner with the City Charlottetown in the hosting of the League’s prestigious event and look forward to welcoming QMJHL administration and teams to our city next year,” said Craig Foster, Charlottetown Islanders President of Operations.
