Charlottetown to host 2016 Softball Canada Event
The City of Charlottetown, SCORE! and Softball Canada are pleased to announce that the capital city will host the 2016 Softball Canada U21 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship.
The event will take place from August 9-14, 2016 at the Central Ball Field Complex.
“The City of Charlottetown has a long-standing, strong working relationship with Softball Canada because of our past event hosting successes, infrastructure for large sporting events, and our community support and volunteer base,” said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. “We’re excited to have been chosen as the host city for this national sporting event and look forward to working with Softball Canada and Softball PEI to welcome approximately 500 people – participants, officials, and spectators – to our city in 2016.”
“Softball Canada is extremely excited to be partnering with the City of Charlottetown once again to host the U21 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship in August of 2016,” said Kevin Quinn, Softball Canada President. “The City of Charlottetown has operated many successful Canadian championships over the years with the most recent being the 2014 Senior/Masters Men’s. We anticipate a great turnout for this event as many Provincial teams will be preparing for the return of Men’s Softball to the Canada Games in this specific age category in 2017.”
Each year, Softball Canada presents 11 Canadian championships in various locations across the country. These championships represent the pinnacle of many athletes’ careers, as they compete for the title of National Champion. To attend a Canadian Championship, teams must first qualify within their province or territory. Age categories include U14, U16, U18, U21 and Senior Fast Pitch for women, as well as U16, U18, U21 and Senior Fast Pitch for men. There is also a Men’s and Women’s category at the Canadian Slo-Pitch Championships.
