Charlottetown’s Sport Tourism Brand SCORE Wins National Award

Charlottetown, PEI, April 1, 2015 – The City of Charlottetown’s sport tourism brand SCORE! has been awarded with a 2015 PRESTIGE Award through Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA).

SCORE! was recognized during the 9th edition of the PRESTIGE Awards as the recipient of the Sport Tourism Organization of the Year Award presented by WestJet.

“The City of Charlottetown is a proud member of the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance and applauds CSTA’s efforts in establishing the PRESTIGE Awards several years ago to honour the outstanding contributions of the sport tourism industry. Winning the 2015 CSTA Sport Tourism Organization of the Year Award is a true honour and reinforces the outstanding efforts of our Events Development Officer, Wayne Long, in managing our sport tourism brand, SCORE,” said His Worship, Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. “Charlottetown has become an award-winning sport tourism destination through the attraction and hosting of sporting events led by SCORE and today’s award marks our third PRESTIGE win. We thank the CSTA for their ongoing support of the sport tourism industry and look forward to continued success.”

SCORE! is an initiative of the City of Charlottetown that was created in 2005 to expand the lucrative sport tourism industry within the Capital City. SCORE! attracts and assists in the hosting of sport events in Charlottetown that offer a pronounced opportunity for economic, tourism and community growth. SCORE! attracts events worth millions of dollars annually to the provincial capital.

“Each of the PRESTIGE recipients, finalists and indeed the PRESTIGE Luncheon sponsors, are building Canada’s reputation as a world-leader in sport tourism—a highly competitive market which contributes an impressive $5.2 billion dollars to the Canadian economy annually,” said CSTA CEO Rick Traer. “The PRESTIGE Awards Luncheon unites Canadians from coast to coast in order to celebrate the vision, community building and leadership that excellence in sport tourism requires. The CSTA congratulates the recipients and all the builders that fuel Canada’s sport tourism industry.”
