Eastern Canadian Ringette Championships to be Hosted in Capital
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, November 27, 2015 – High speed ringette is returning to Charlottetown this season as Ringette PEI prepares to host the Eastern Canadian Ringette Championships.
The event will see up to 28 teams from Eastern provinces competing in the U14, U16, U19, and 18+ divisions. It takes place April 14th-17th. In addition to close to 70 games of fast paced ringette, the event will also feature a skills competition and an athlete banquet.
“We’re really excited to be able to host this event again,” said RPEI president Mike James. “The level of competition goes up every year and we’ve been able to ice teams that are right in the mix. It’s an exciting event for all the younger players to come watch and learn from.”
The Wave, Ringette PEI’s high performance program, will ice a team in each of the divisions. They hope to follow-up on last year’s Easterns when the U19 Wave brought home the silver medal and the U16 Wave brought home the bronze medal.
The event is proudly supported by SCORE and the Charlottetown Tourism Accommodation Levy.
“The City of Charlottetown, through SCORE – our sport tourism initiative, is happy to have worked with Ringette PEI to secure the hosting rights of this event for Charlottetown,” said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. “The impacts of hosting such an event will be many for our city, and on behalf of the members of City Council, I applaud the efforts of Ringette PEI for their leadership and contributions to sport tourism in Charlottetown.”
All games will be played at CARI and the Pownal Sports Centre and are free to the public. PEI last hosted this event in 2011 in Charlottetown.
