Mayor Clifford Lee, in conjunction with the PEI Rugby Union are pleased to announce that the 2004 Eastern Canadian Rugby Championships will be hosted in the City from July 15th–18th.
The Championships will bring together a showcase of 500 participants from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland for the four day event, with both Men’s and Women’s divisions – Men’s Under 21, Under 18, and Under 16 / Women’s Senior and Under 19.
Mayor Lee noted, “The City commends the leadership of the PEI Rugby Union and the Event Committee for their vision to bring the event to Charlottetown. Charlottetown is recognized as premiere event destination, and we are so pleased to host this event and have the opportunity to showcase our hospitality to participants, officials and fans. Events such as the Championships stimulate tourism, economic and community growth.”
“We are delighted to host this event,” said PEI Rugby Union President Tyler Richardson. “It is a wonderful opportunity to promote our sport and display the talent of some of the best players in the country.”
Championship play will take place in Charlottetown at the Simmons and Colonel Gray Fields.
